Quality Awards

Quality Award is a competition. It is held in order to identify an organization that can ensure the quality of the goods produced the provision of services or the performance of work in the best way compared to other organizations.

Organizations are evaluated according to a certain set of criteria when they take part in the competition. Comparison and selection of the best organization is based on these criteria in order to be nominated for an award.

Quality award does not give anything for a material point of view. This is not a monetary reward. This is a brand - organization's insignia. The winning can take an organization the publicity. It is the most important reason for participating in the competition.

Participation in the quality award requires a lot of effort and resources from organizations. It is necessary to meet all the criteria of the quality award as much, as possible in order to win the competition. It is required to apply various quality methods, tools and technologies.

Quality awards have been created in many countries of the world. The main goal of it was to encourage organizations to produce better products. Many countries have realized that it was impossible to achieve product quality without ensuring the quality of management, the quality of setting goals and the quality of their implementation.

Nowadays, there are quality awards that differ in localization levels and areas of professional activity:

International;

National;

Regional;

Awards at the level of trade unions;

Awards of large companies (apply to suppliers).

There are some examples of this awards:

EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) - this award was established by 14 large European companies in 1988. The purpose of creating the European Quality Award is to increase the competitiveness of European companies. The European Quality Award was changed in 1991. EFQM improvement model has been developed based on it.

Gold award for the quality of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region - this award was established by the national quality organizations of the countries of Asia and the Pacific region in 1985. The purpose of the establishment of the quality award was to encourage companies in the Asia-Pacific region to improve quality and increase their competitiveness in global markets.

The Deming Prize - this is one of the most prestigious and well-known awards in the quality. It was established in Japan in 1951. Deming Prize had international status in 1984. It is awarded to an organization only when the created and applied quality system corresponds to the type and size of this organization. It is the peculiarity of this award.

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award - this Prize is awarded only to American companies (or companies that have a representative office in the USA) for achievements in the quality. It was established in 1987 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the USA.

UK Business Excellence Award - it was established in 1994 by the British Society of Quality.

US Air Force quality Award - it is awarded to US companies, that work on orders of the US Air Force.

German Breweries quality Award – it was established by the Agricultural Society of Germany. The prize is awarded to enterprises involved in the beer production chain from agricultural production to processing.

Nowadays, there are a large number of different quality awards in the world. The above examples are only a small part of them.

There are own quality awards in Russia. Russian Government Quality Award is a national award. It was established in 1996. The purpose of the competition within the framework of this award is to improve the quality management of national organizations and increase their competitiveness.

All these quality awards are established in order to systematize and structure the management of companies. The result of the awards application is to increase the competitiveness and productivity of business within the country and on the world market.
